Sunbeam Products Inc., of Boca Raton, Fla., is recalling about 8,000 Oster HD120-model hand-held electric hair dryers. These hair dryers do not have a ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) or similar device to reduce the risk of electrical shock or electrocution if the hair dryer comes in contact with water.

These hair dryers were sold only in Puerto Rico. They are white with red and black switches. The model number, HD120, is embossed on the plastic handle of the dryer. "Oster " and "DANGER-ELECTROCUTION POSSIBLE IF USED OR DROPPED IN TUB" also are written on the hair dryers. Retailers in Puerto Rico, including Supermercados Amigo, sold these hair dryers from January 1994 through June 1998 for about $15.

Consumers should immediately stop using these hair dryers. Sunbeam is offering consumers a refund or a replacement hairdryer with a GFCI. For more information, call Sunbeam at (800) 672-5625 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. EDT Monday through Friday.
