The United States Coast Guard (USCG), Office of Boating Safety maintains separate databases on recreational boats manufactured or imported into the United States.
Boat Manufacturers Database: Recreational boats sold or imported into the United States are required to have a twelve (12) character Hull Identification Number. The first three letters are the Manufacturer's Identification Code (MIC) . The United States Coast Guard (USCG) maintains the database of all recreational boat manufacturers in the United States, and importers of recreational boats. The database contains active, out of business, and Canadian manufacturers. More information concerning MIC's can be obtained by calling the Coast Guard at 1-800-368-5647.
Boat Recalls Database: The Recreational Boating Product Assurance Division maintains the database containing information on manufacturer recalls of recreational boats and associated equipment administered by the United States Coast Guard (USCG) .
