South Carolina Firm Expands Recall of Chicken Breast Strips For Possible Listeria Contamination

Carolina Culinary Foods, a West Columbia, S.C., firm, is expanding its Feb.18 recall of fully cooked Oscar Mayer/Louis Rich chicken breast cuts and strips that may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes

The front of each package subject to this recall bears the establishment number "P-19676" inside the USDA mark of inspection. On the back of each package appears a "Use by" date. Products subject to recall bear a "Use by" date earlier than "28 MAY 2007." The expanded recall totals approximately 2.8 million pounds.

Only the following Oscar Mayer/Louis Rich chicken breast cuts and strips are subject to recall. The list is inclusive of products included in both the original and expanded recall actions.

Nevada Firm Recalls Semi-Boneless Ham Steaks for Possible Listeria Contamination

First Quality Sausage, a Las Vegas, Nev., firm, is recalling approximately 930 pounds of semi-boneless ham steaks that may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes

The ham steaks were produced on Feb. 14, 2007 and were distributed to institutions in Carson City, Las Vegas and Reno, Nev.

Update on Peanut Butter Recall

The ConAgra plant in Sylvester, GA, sent bulk Peter Pan peanut butter to its plant in Humboldt, TN. The three brands described below are part of the original Peter Pan recall. These brands have been recalled and are no longer being sold. However, some consumers may still have these products in their home.

Consumers who have any of the products listed below should discard them. Individuals who are not sure if the purchased product contains the recalled peanut butter topping should contact the store where the product was purchased.

ConAgra informed the public that it is recalling all Peter Pan peanut butter and all Great Value peanut butter beginning with product code 2111. The company's recall extends to products made since December 2005.

Simply Fresh Fruit Inc. Announces the Recall of Fresh Cut Fruit Trays 

Simply Fresh Fruit Inc. is recalling Simply Fresh Fruit Fresh Cut Fruit trays dated with sell by date 022607 due to possible salmonella contamination. On February 23, Simply Fresh Fruit Inc. was notified by Castle Produce that cantaloupe shipped by Castle to Simply Fresh Fruit Inc. on February 16 was subject to a recall due to possible Salmonella contamination.

The cantaloupe was processed into 2,250 trays of five-pound fresh cut fruit and distributed by Costco throughout Los Angeles metropolitan areas. Costco was notified on February 23 and the product was removed immediately from sale; there have been no reported illness from consumption of this product and the product is now out of code. The recall is for trays labeled "Simply Fresh Fruit Fresh Cut Fruit Tray" with a sell by date of 2-26-07. 

Customers who may have uneaten trays with the 2-26-07 code date may arrange for the return of the product for a full refund by calling Simply Fresh Fruit at 323-586-0000.

Washington Firm Recalls Ground Beef for Possible E. coli O157:H7 Contamination

Tyson Fresh Meats, a Wallula, Wash., firm, is recalling approximately 16,743 pounds of ground beef that may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7

Cibo Specialty Foods Issues a Recall on Potential Botulism Risk Associated with Specific Lots from Eight Varieties of Dal Raccolto Brand Olives

Cibo Specialty Foods, a division of Colavita USA, L.L.C. of Linden, N.J., is recalling the following olive products sold under the "DAL RACCOLTO" brand. Immediately stop using the product. Testing of the products in question has revealed that specific products had pH and water activity that exceed the levels necessary to control botulism. 

The items are packed in 4.18 lb., 2.5 kg, and 11 lb. -size containers, and are sold primarily to the foodservice trade (e.g. restaurants, restaurant distributors and other foodservice institutions). Any establishments or individual consumers that may have purchased any of these products should discard them immediately even though the product may appear to be normal. You cannot tell if the product harbors botulism by sight, taste or smell.

Flora Foods Recalls "Cerignola" Olives Because of Possible Health Risk

Flora Foods of Pompano Beach, Florida, is recalling its 25oz jars of "Cerignola Olives" because they have the potential to be contaminated with Clostridium botulinum, a bacterium which can cause life-threatening illness or death. Consumers are warned not to use the product even if it does not look or smell spoiled.

The recalled "Cerignola" olives were distributed in Florida, Georgia and upstate New York in retail stores.

The product comes in a 25 oz, clear glass jar marked with LOT #G080 stamped on the label.

Consumers who have purchased 25 oz jars of "Cerignola" olives are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact the company at 954-785-3100.

Frito-Lay Issues Recall of 2 oz. Bags of Fritos Original Corn Chips in 2 States Due to Undeclared Milk and Wheat

Frito-Lay announced the recall of 92 cases (5,520 bags) of 2 oz. bags of Fritos Original Corn Chips. This lot is marked as Fritos Original Corn Chips but may contain Fritos Chili Cheese Flavored Corn Chips. 

This product has been distributed only in Texas and Louisiana. The affected packages have been distributed to vending machines and food service operations.

The only affected packages are 2 oz. bags of Fritos Original Corn Chips that have a freshness date of May 8 located on the upper right hand side of the package and with a 10 digit code number of 62730483692, 62730483592 or 62730483992, which appears immediately beneath the freshness date.

Consumers with any product of the lot code and package size noted above can return product to point of sale or can contact Frito-Lay Consumer Affairs at 1-800-352-4477.

Update on Peanut Butter Recall-Week Ending March 10

As a follow-up to the recent Salmonella outbreak linked to peanut butter, ConAgra has extended their recall of all Peter Pan peanut butter, and all Great Value peanut butter beginning with product code 2111, including peanut butter toppings, back to October 2004. 

Consumers who have purchased any of the products since October 2004 should discard them. 

Continental Mills Issues Recall on Undeclared Egg in GFS Buttermilk Pancake Mix

Continental Mills, Seattle, WA is recalling 2976, 5 lb. boxes of GFS Buttermilk Pancake Mix UPC #93901 24580 because they may contain undeclared egg

GFS Buttermilk Pancake Mix was distributed since January 2007 to the following states through Gordon Food Service, Inc. (GFS) delivery and GFS Marketplace stores: Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Florida, Pennsylvania, and Kentucky.

The recalled GFS Buttermilk Pancake is packaged in a 5 lb. cardboard box with the code date printed on the top flap. The code dates involved have the first six digits KB6313 and KB6314.

Customers who have GFS Buttermilk Pancake Mix with either of these codes should destroy the product and bring their receipt back to the GFS Marketplace store for a full refund.

Washington Firm Recalls Summer Sausage Due To Undeclared Allergen

Hempler Foods Group, a Ferndale, Wash., firm, is recalling approximately 5,084 pounds of summer sausage due to the presence of an undeclared allergen, hydrolyzed sodium caseinate (milk protein)

The product label fails to list hydrolyzed sodium caseinate, a potential known allergen.

Ben & Jerry's is recalling 250,000 pints of its Ben & Jerry's Country Peach Cobbler Ice Cream: Peach Ice Cream with Cinnamon-Sugar Shortbread Pieces & a Peach Swirl ("Country Peach Cobbler"), because it contains undeclared wheat. The following date codes: Jan 23, 2008; Jan 24, 2008; Feb 8, 2008; Feb 9, 2008 of Country Peach Cobbler are subject to the recall. The date code is found on the bottom of the pint.

Country Peach Cobbler was distributed nationwide and reached consumers through retail stores.

MDA Issues Consumer Advisory on Potato Salad

The Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA) has issued an advisory for consumers to avoid eating selected lot codes of Coborn's, Cash Wise and Midwest Pride potato salad sold at stores in Minnesota and six other states due to concerns that the product may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes bacteria.

Southeast Asian Foods Recalls Fish Paste, Fish Ball and Fish Cake Products

SOUTHEAST ASIAN FOODS of San Francisco, CA is recalling its Fish Paste, Fish Ball, and Fish Cake products, because they may contain undeclared Liquid Egg White.

Nationwide Recall of Cerignola, Nocellara and Castelvetrano Olives 

Charlie Brown di Rutigliano & Figli S.r.l, in Bari Italy, is recalling Cerignola Olives, Nocellara Olives and Castelvetrano Olives from distribution because they have the potential to be contaminated with Clostridium botulinum, a bacterium that can cause a life-threatening illness or death. Consumers are warned not to use the product even if it does not look or smell spoiled.

The recalled olives were distributed to wholesalers, who then distributed them nationally to restaurants and retail stores.

This recall covers all sizes of cans, glass jars and pouches of Cerignola Olives, Nocerella Olives and Castelvetrano Olives containing codes beginning with the letter "G" followed by 3 or 4 digits under the following brands: Borrelli, Bonta di Puglia, Cento, Corrado's, Dal Raccolto, Flora, Roland and Vantia.

Consumers who have purchased these types of olives are urged to visit their retailer to determine if the olives are from Charlie Brown di Rutigliano & Figli S.r.l. If they are the recalled products you will be issued a full refund.

Healthy Corner Foods Inc, d/b/a Healthy Corner Foods, 6005 16th Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11204 is recalling certain Chicken and Turkey Salads; and Turkey, Turkey Salad and Chicken Salad Sandwiches due to undeclared milk ingredients. People who have allergies to milk may run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reactions if they consume this product.

Acapulco Bakery, Staten Island, New York 10310, is recalling packages of "Lorenzo brand Conchas de Sabor Vainilla, Cuernitos de Canela, Hojaldras, Croissant and Sweet Mexican Bread" varieties due to an undeclared milk ingredient. 

The recalled "Lorenzo brand Conchas, de Sabor Vainilla, Cuernitos de Canela, Hojaldras, Croissant and Sweet Mexican Bread" varieties come in an uncoded plastic bag, lacking a weight declaration. It was sold in New York, Connecticut, New Jersey and Virginia.

Consumers who have purchased any "Lorenzo brand Conchas, de Sabor Vainilla, Cuernitos de Canela, Hojaldras, Croissant and Sweet Mexican Bread" variety should return it to the place of purchase.
