Smart Nutrition Recalls Trail Mix Peanut and Peanut Products 

Smart Nutrition of Tumwater, WA is recalling bulk random weight packaged trail mixes and peanut products, because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. 

Products were distributed between April 14, 2008 and March 1, 2009 in the bulk food section of Smart Nutrition's retail store located in Tumwater, WA and include:

• AUNT PATTY'S CASCADE TRAIL MIX
• SUNRIDGE FARMS FRUIT & NUT TRAIL MIX
• HONEY ROASTED SPLIT PEANUTS
• WHOLE RAW REDSKIN PEANUTS

The products were sold in random weight bulk clear plastic bags with twist tie and a white label describing the contents.

Products have no expiration dates or other specific codes; UPC and/or PLU codes unknown.

Snackerz Inc. Recalls Snackerz Roasted and Salted Peanuts 

Snackerz Inc. of Commerce, CA, is recalling Snackerz Roasted & Salted Peanuts because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.

The recalled peanuts were distributed in CA, NV, AZ, and TX in retail stores and through mail orders.

The product is sold in a 2.5 ounce, plastic bag labeled as Snackerz Roasted & Salted Peanuts with a UPC code #7-61584-19701-1 and with a Best Before or Best Buy date of 5/20/2006 through 11/12/2009 on the top of the package and an expiration date stamped on the side.

Consumers who have purchased the product are urged to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.

Candies Tolteca Recalls Two flavors of Peanut Snacks 

CANDIES TOLTECA of Fresno, California is recalling 4 oz. CACAHUATE C/CHILE; 4 oz CACAHUATE C/SAL Y LIMON; AND 7 oz CACAHUATE CON CHILE because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.

Cacahuate C/Chile and Cacahuate c/Sal y Limon were distributed in California and Nevada through Independent Distributors who in turn, distributed and sold to many retail stores, including Supermarkets, Gas Stations and Convenient Stores.

The products come in either a 4 ounce, clear plastic package with UPC Code 70492750518 labeled Cacahuate C/Chile (Spanish for Peanuts with Chile), a 4 ounce, clear plastic package with UPC Code 70492750517 labeled Cacahuate C/Sal y Limon (Spanish for Peanuts with Salt & Lemon) or a 7 ounce, clear plastic package with UPC Code 70492750525 labeled Cacahuate con Chile (Spanish for Peanut with Chile). The label states Candies Tolteca Co. Mexican Candies and is  bright yellow with a bright orange border.  The logo on the left side of the label is of a Toltec character holding an object in his left hand.

Torres Hillsdale Country Cheese LLC Expands the Recall of Asadero and Oaxaca Cheeses 

Torres Hillsdale Country Cheese of Reading, Michigan is expanding the recall of Asadero and Oaxaca soft Mexican-style cheeses due to potential Listeria contamination.   

Products were distributed to the following states: Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, Ohio, Wisconsin, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Florida, and Alabama.

The recalled Asadero and Oaxaca cheese products were distributed to retails stores and delis in 10 lb balls, 16- and 12 oz plastic packages, sold under the name "Aguas Calientes". Product was also sold in 6 lb blocks shrink-wrapped in clear plastic, under the name "El Jaliciense". Packaging may also include a label with the name "Torres Hillsdale Country Cheese LLC".

The recall encompasses all productions dates between August 1, 2008 (expiration date 10/29/2008) and February 27, 2009 (expiration date 5/10/2009).

Consumers and retailers are urged to return all unused recalled product to the manufacturer.

Setton Pistachio of Terra Bella, Inc. Announces Recall of Pistachios

 Setton Pistachio of Terra Bella, Inc. is recalling specific lots of bulk roasted shelled pistachios and 2,000 lbs., 1,700 lbs., 1,800 lbs. and 1,000 lbs. tote bags of roasted inshell pistachios sold to wholesale customers due to potential contamination with the Salmonella organism.

This recall affects certain bulk roasted inshell and roasted shelled pistachios shipped on or after September 1, 2008. The bulk product was distributed throughout the United States.

The Company is asking those firms who received bulk product and have further processed, repackaged, or distributed the affected products to recall those products and contact FDA.

In addition, the company is voluntarily recalling the following retail product: Setton Farms brand roasted salted shelled pistachios in 9 oz. film bags, UPC Code: 034325020252 with a "Best Before" date between 01/06/10 and 01/19/10. This product was distributed in the following states: SC, GA, FL, NC, VA, TN, KY. Consumers should not consume this product and should return what they may have to the place of purchase for a full refund. Setton has established a toll free number, (888) 228-3717, for consumers to call for further information.

Union International Food Company Recalls Packaged Peanuts 

Union International Food Company of City of Industry, CA is recalling their packaged peanut products shipped prior to March 13, 2009 because they were packaged using peanuts recalled by Peanut Corporation of America's Plainview, Texas facility because of the potential for Salmonella contamination.

The affected products go by the brand name “Lian How” and the red label indicates "Peanuts" in both English and Chinese with “PACKED BY UNION INTERNATIONAL FOOD CO.” at City of Industry printed on the bottom.  There is no indication of an expiration date.  The peanuts from this source were sold by the company prior to March 13, 2009.  The products were distributed throughout Southern California to wholesalers and restaurants by truck delivery.

Customers who have purchased the affected products are urged to return to them to Union International Food Company for a full refund or exchange.

The Produce Patch of Bend, Oregon is recalling Cascade Trail Mix, because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. Cascade Trail Mix was manufactured using peanuts/peanut products recalled by Peanut Corporation of America because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.

Cascade Trail Mix was distributed through retail store purchase only at The Produce Patch, Bend, OR.

Cascade Trail MiX was packaged in plastic zip lock bags of various weights and sizes. Labeling included the Produce Patch logo along with product name (Cascade Trail Mix) and ingredients of product. Labeling did not include product production date or store PLU. Product was in store from 11/01/2008 - 03/01/2009.

Stores under the following names in the 31 states where Kroger operates are included in this recall:  Kroger, Ralphs, Fred Meyer, Fry's, King Soopers, Smith's, Dillons, QFC, City Market, Foods Co., Jay C, Scott's, Owen's, Baker's, Gerbes, Hilander and Pay Less.

Kroger is recalling the following item:

• Private Selection Shelled Pistachios sold in 10-ounce containers with a "Sell by" date of DEC-13-09 and DEC-14-09 with this UPC Code: 11110 73615.

Arya Ice Cream Dist. Co. of Los Angeles, CA is recalling their California Dream Nut Sundae Ice Cream product because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. 

The affected items were labeled as California Dream King Size Nut Sundae On A Stick 5 FL. OZ. and marked with the expiration date of February 9th, 2009 or January 21, 2010. The products were distributed through wholesalers and direct customer sales in the Southern California.

South Carolina Firm Recalls Frozen Meat and Poultry Products  

Halal International Processing, a York, S.C., establishment, is recalling approximately 2,925 pounds of beef, chicken, goat, and lamb products that were mislabeled. Poultry products labeled with the USDA mark of inspection for meat were identified in commerce. Additionally, it was determined that the establishment was operating at times without the opportunity of federal inspection, which is prohibited.

All frozen meat and poultry products produced from April 3, 2008, through March 7, 2009, bearing the establishment number "EST. 19825" inside the USDA mark of inspection, are subject to recall. There are no production or code dates to distinguish the products that were produced under inspection from those that were not produced under inspection. The frozen meat and poultry products were distributed to retail establishments in North Carolina and South Carolina.

Aunt Patty’s Trail Mix was manufactured by Glory Bee Foods Inc. and sold through Natural Selection’s market in Waldport, OR between July 18, 2008 and March 1, 2009.  The trail mix was packaged in 4 oz., 8 oz., and 16 oz. plastic containers and labeled with “Cascade Organic Trail Mix Natural Selection PO Box 2380 Waldport, OR 97394” and the following product codes 8205250-04, 8205250-08, or 8205250-16.  No specific codes, UPC codes, or expirations dates are found on the label.

Organic To Go™ is recalling cookies produced in 2007 by its prior manufacturer which were distributed in 2007 with the brand name of Organic to Go All Natural Peanut Butter Cookies. These cookies were manufactured using peanut products recalled by Peanut Corporation of America because they may be contaminated with Salmonella. 

The Peanut Butter Cookies involved in this recall were manufactured and distributed between May 2007 and September 2007. The cookies were individually wrapped in clear plastic with orange and green labels printed with the brand "O To Go" and labeled as All Natural Peanut Butter Cookie (no UPC code). The cookies were distributed directly to and sold by Organic to Go retail cafés and catering customers in addition to third party foodservice providers in California and Washington.

If consumers purchased and have possession of any Organic to Go All Natural Peanut Butter Cookies distributed in 2007, they are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.

Missouri Firm Recalls Cheese Frank Products Due To Mislabeling and an Undeclared Allergen                                                   

Sara Lee North American Retail, a St. Joseph, Mo., establishment, is recalling approximately 1,728 pounds of cheese frank products because they were inadvertently packaged with beef frank labels and therefore contained undeclared allergens, milk and cheese. Milk, a known potential allergen, is not declared on the label.

The following product is subject to recall:

• 1-pound packages of "Ball Park BRAND BEEF FRANKS." Each package bears the use by date of "May 07 09 P8740A" as well as a UPC code of "5450010002."

The cheese frank products were produced on Feb. 12, 2009, and were shipped to distribution centers nationwide intended for use by consumers.

Back to Nature Foods Company is recalling its Nantucket Blend trail mix containing pistachio nuts that may have the potential to be contaminated with the Salmonella organism.  

The following products are being recalled and consumers should not eat them:

• Back to Nature Nantucket Blend trail mix, 28 oz. bag, UPC code 59283-00020 and a “best by” date between 08 20 09 and 12 12 09.
• Back to Nature Nantucket Blend trail mix, 10 oz. bag, UPC code 59283-31039 and a “best by” date between 11 04 09 and 12 12 09.

The Georgia Nut Company is recalling certain bulk wholesale and retail products containing shelled pistachio nuts that have the potential to be contaminated with the Salmonella organism. 

The recall includes the following products:

• Bulk Deluxe Mixed Nuts with shelled pistachios purchased at the Not Just Nuts store in Wauwatosa, WI from Dec. 5, 2008 through March 24, 2009;
• Bulk or custom packaged Deluxe Mixed Nuts with shelled pistachios purchased at Georgia Nut retail stores in Skokie and Glenview, IL, Georgia Nut’s Chocolate House location in Greenfield, WI, and through the Company’s website from Dec 11, 2008 through March 23, 2009;
• Bulk or custom packaged Dry Roasted Shelled Pistachios purchased at Georgia Nut retail stores in Skokie and Glenview, IL, Georgia Nut’s Chocolate House location in Greenfield, WI, and through the Company’s website from Dec 3, 2008 through March 23, 2009;

California Firm Recalls Smoked Chicken Sausage Products Due to Mislabeling 

Engelhart Gourmet Foods, Inc., a Fairfield, Ca. establishment is recalling approximately 3,456 pounds of a smoked chicken sausage product because the product may contain an allergen, wheat..

Wheat is a known potential allergen and the product is mislabeled as the front of the package states "NO GLUTEN." However, the ingredients statement on the back of the package indicates that the product "CONTAINS SOY AND WHEAT."

The following products are subject to recall:

• 48-ounce vacuum-sealed packages of "ALL NATURAL CHEF BRUCE aidells Fully Cooked Spicy Mango with Jalapeño: Smoked Chicken Sausage with Mango and Jalapeño Pepper." 

Each label bears establishment number "P-6024" inside the USDA mark of inspection, as well as the product item number "360278," which is located on the back of the package directly below the list of ingredients. Packages are marked with Use or Freeze by Dates "5/4/09" and "5/11/09."

The product was produced on March 6 and 12, 2009 and was distributed to retail establishments in the Los Angeles metropolitan area.

Torn & Glasser Recalls Raw Blanched Peanuts 

Torn & Glasser of Los Angeles, CA is recalling their Raw Blanched Peanuts because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. 

The items of 5 lb and 25lb bulk Raw Blanched Peanuts were sold in brown cardboard cases and labeled as:

"#340-235 RAW BLANCHED PEANUTS NET WT. 5 LBS PRODUCT OF USA TORN & GLASSER"
"#340-245 RAW BLANCHED PEANUTS NET WT. 25 LBS PRODUCT OF USA TORN & GLASSER"

This product was distributed through wholesalers and direct to customer sales. These were sold in the Southern California Region.

All Raw Blanched Peanuts 5 lbs and 25 lbs distributed with Julian code 2678 and Raw Blanched Peanuts 25 lbs with Julian code 2748 sold September 22, 2008 to November 1, 2008 are involved in this recall.

Raw Blanched Peanuts with Julian code dates of 2758 or higher were made with nuts from a separate supplier not affected by this or any other recall. The Julian code can be found on the lower left side on outer case label.

Consumers who have purchased Torn & Glasser Raw Blanched Peanuts with the above Julian code dates are urged to discard any product they have.

Yoke's Fresh Markets Recalls Raw Spanish Peanuts 

Yoke’s Fresh Markets is recalling their Raw Spanish Peanuts, because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.  

The peanuts were distributed to four Yoke’s Fresh Market stores: Mead and North Foothills in Spokane, East Sprague in Spokane Valley and Sandpoint, Idaho from July 18, 2008 through March 16, 2009. East Sprague and Sandpoint were the only two stores with product on the shelves at the time of the recall notification. No other Yoke’s Fresh Market stores carried the product during the recall.

The Raw Spanish Peanuts were sold as a bulk product in the produce department.  As the product was bulk, there is no code or labeling available.

Consumers who have purchased Raw Spanish Peanuts are urged to return them to the store for a full refund.

E & S Sales of Shipshewana, IN is recalling three products containing peanuts packaged under their store name, because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.

The products were sold by weight in the E & S Sales retail store in Shipshewana, IN and  were bagged in approx. 1 lb clear plastic bags with a label showing the product name, weight, price per lb, ingredients, and total cost.  

The products under recall are French Burnt Peanuts, Boston Baked Beans and Granulated Peanuts.  There are no UPC codes on the packages.

Totally Nuts of Westland, MI is recalling no sugar added chocolate peanuts, packaged under the Hiller’s name, because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.

The product was sold at retail in Hiller’s Market stores in the Detroit Metropolitan area of Michigan.

The product is labeled as Hiller’s No Sugar Added Chocolate Peanuts, net wt 12 oz., Packaged by Totally Nuts, Westland, MI, UPC 0939376012.  The lot number is a six digit number on the back of the package, and any package with a lot number beginning with “07” or “08” is under recall.

Caudill Seed Company® Issues Recall on Wegmans Organic Buttter Flavor Microwave Popcorn

Caudill Seed Company, Inc. is recalling Wegmans Organic Butter Flavor Microwave Popcorn because it may contain undeclared milk ingredients.  

This product was distributed to and sold by Wegmans retail stores in New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Virginia, and Pennsylvania.

The product is sold in a 10.5 oz. tan and orange square cardboard carton with a picture of popped popcorn on the front.  This carton contains 3-3.5 oz. trifold brown microwavable bags wrapped in cellophane marked USDA organic popcorn.  The product is labeled as Wegmans Organic Butter Flavor Microwave Popcorn with a UPC of 077890853917.  There are four date codes being recalled.  The recalled product’s date code is embossed on the end of the box and the first date code reads “A 06/05/09 or B 06/05/09.”  The second date code reads “ A 05/27/09 or B 05/27/09.”

Donuts were also distributed to Seattle, WA Food Banks. There are no specific UPC codes or package labeling, although stores may display a sign that says "Mighty-O Donuts, the organic donut, certified organic ingredients, dairy and egg free, trans-fat free, locally owned." Donuts produced on Feb. 18 or afterwards are not affected by the recall.

The Queso Fresco Fresh Cheese comes in a 14-ounce foil wrapped packages marked with lot number 4469 or 4477 affixed to each package on a white sticker and bearing UPC number 8 17424 00024 6 and Plant # 36-8431.

The Queso Cotija Molido Cheese comes in 15-ounce clear plastic bags that are marked with UPC number 8 17424 00027 7 and Plant # 36-1388, but do not contain a lot number or production date.

Anna's Pantry LLC is recalling Honey Roasted Peanuts, Cocktail Snack Mix and Roasted and Salted Mixed Nuts, in connection with the recall of peanut ingredients manufactured by Peanut Corporation of America (PCA), because the peanut ingredients have the potential to have been contaminated with Salmonella.

The impacted products were distributed through gift shops in Oregon and Washington State during the period of January 1, 2007 through January 23, 2009.  The gift shops sold the products at retail and/or used the products in their gift baskets.

Betty Lou's Inc. Expands Nationwide Recall of Nut Butter Peanut Butter Protein Balls 

Betty Lou's Inc. of McMinnville, Oregon is expanding their recall of Betty Lou's Nut Butter Peanut Butter Protein Balls because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. 

Betty Lou's Nut Butter Peanut Butter Protein Balls were distributed nationally through retail health food stores, wholesalers and direct to customer sales.

All Nut Butter Peanut Butter Protein Balls distributed from January 1, 2007 to February 16, 2009 and with BEST BY 29AUG09 and prior, are involved in this recall.

All current and future production runs of Betty Lou's Nut Butter Peanut Butter Balls will be made using a new nut supplier not affected by this recall. New product will have a BEST BY date of BEST BY 20SEP09 and later.

The balls are packaged in 1.7 oz. packaged balls, 40 or 70-count plastic jars, and 18-count printed cardboard boxes. Product labels include "Betty Lou's Nut Butter PEANUT BUTTER BALLS"

Recalled products were sold only in case quantities as indicated below and they were distributed to the Food Service industry in California, Oregon, Washington, Hawaii, and Idaho.  Lot numbers of the products listed are located on each package and/or case and include 07001 through 09056. Lot numbers are formatted with the first two numbers being the year (07 for 2007, 09 for 2009).  The remaining three numbers are the Julian date (day of the year).

Turner Holdings, LLC Announces Recall Due to Potentially Contaminated Peanuts

Turner Holdings of Covington, Tennessee is recalling approximately 80,024 units of various ice cream flavors because the chocolate coated peanuts in the ice cream was supplied by Kerry Ingredients & Flavours and it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.

These products were sold by Turner to distributors in Tennessee, Mississippi, Missouri and Texas and were sold through grocery stores, supermarkets, dollar stores, drug stores and discount stores.

Consumers that have this product should not consume it. They should discard the ice cream but take the packaging back to the location of purchase for a full refund.

Roman Meal Whole Grain & Fruit Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Snack Bars were distributed at retail stores in Iowa and California. Also, bars were sold directly nationwide to consumers over the internet.

• Roman Meal Whole Grain & Fruit Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Snack Bars are packaged in a plastic wrapper approximately 2 ½” X 6”. The predominant color of the package is brown. The net weight of the bar is 2 oz. The affected lot code “Best Before 22JUN09A” is on the back of the wrapper, in the lower right corner. The UPC code is 41511 16002.
• A retail caddy contains 12 such bars in a paper display box. The color and graphics of the display caddy are identical to that of the 2 oz. bar wrapper. Internet purchasers typically received product in the display caddy. The affected lot code “Best Before 22JUN09A” is on the right side of the display caddy. The UPC code is 41511 16102.

The only lot code affected by this recall is “Best Before 22JUN09A”. 

Consumers should not consume Roman Meal Whole Grain & Fruit Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Snack Bars with lot code “Best Before 22JUN09A”. Consumers are urged to discard any product they have.
