America's Catch, Inc. Issues Allergy Alert on Undeclared Egg White in Breaded Catfish Nuggets

 

America's Catch, Inc. of Itta Bena, MS is voluntarily recalling 2.5 lb bags of Breaded Catfish Nuggets because the product contains undeclared egg white. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to egg whites run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product.

 

The product was distributed to retail establishments in: AL, AR, AZ, CO, CT, FL, GA, IA, ID, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, MI, MN, MO, MS, MT, NC, NE, NH, NM, NV, NY, OH, OK, OR, PA, SC, SD, TN, TX, UT, VA, WA, WI, WV, and WY.

The product is packaged in transparent plastic bags labeled as America's Catch Breaded Catfish Nuggets in blue on a white background, 2.5 lbs.

 

This recall was initiated after a review of the ingredient statement revealed that product containing egg white was distributed in packaging that did not reveal the presence of egg white. In Addition to the Recall of November 21, Swiss-American, Inc. Also Recalls Cut Prima Della Imported Danish Havarti Plain With a Sell By Date of March 12, 2003 Due to Possible Health Risk

 

Swiss-American, Inc. of St. Louis, MO is recalling cut pieces of Prima Della Imported Danish Havarti Plain with a sell by date of March 12, 2003, because it has the potential to be contaminated with listeria monocytogenes, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in your children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.

 

Cut Prima Della Imported Danish Havarti Plain was distributed through Wal-Mart grocery stores in the continental United States. The cut items come in random weight packages of between 7 oz. and 10 oz. with the sell-by date of March 12, 2003. Swiss-American was informed that one sample of this product contained Listeria monocytogenes on November 29, 2002, and voluntarily ceased shipping this product to stores on November 21, 2002 after the initial recall.

Undeclared Sulfites in Winter Melon Candy

 

New York State Agriculture Commissioner Nathan L. Rudgers today warned sulfite-allergic consumers and asthmatics to avoid consuming "Winter Melon Candy" due to the presence of undeclared sulfites in the product.

The product is being recalled by Sunny Lake Trading, Inc., 651A Lexington Avenue, Brooklyn, New York 11211. "Winter Melon Candy" is packaged in a 12 oz., plastic bag with the code in Chinese. Ingredients are listed as plum, salt and sugar. It is a product of Taiwan. "Winter Melon Candy" was distributed in the Metropolitan New York area.

Routine sampling by New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets food inspectors revealed the product contained high levels of sulfites, which were not declared on the labels. Sulfites can cause deadly reactions in asthmatics and others suffering sulfite allergies. Consumers who have purchased "Winter Melon Candy" should return it to the place of purchase.

 

Kellogg USA Issues Allergy Alert on Undeclared Egg in Kellogg's® Pop-Tarts® Frosted Brown Sugar Cinnamon

 

Kellogg USA of Battle Creek, Mich., is recalling Kellogg's® Pop-Tarts® Frosted Brown Sugar Cinnamon 8-count, 14-ounce packages because they contain undeclared egg. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to egg run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product.

 

There are 730,000 packages of 8-count, 14-ounce Kellogg's® Pop-Tarts® Frosted Brown Sugar Cinnamon with a UPC code of 38000 31110 and a carton code of K-3111D printed on the top of the package affected by this allergy alert. The only Better If Used Before Dates affected are:

"Gold Chinese Products Dried Plum" was distributed in the metropolitan New York area. Routine sampling by New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets food inspectors revealed the product contained high levels of sulfites, which were not declared on the label. Consumers who have purchase "Gold Chinese Products Dried Plum" should return it to the place of purchase.

 

Mon Chong Loong Trading Corp. Issues Allergy Alert on Undeclared Sulfites in "Chinese Dates"

 

Mon Chong Loong Trading Corp. of Maspeth, NY is recalling all of its "Chinese Dates", because they contain undeclared sulfites. State Agriculture Commissioner Nathan L. Rudgers today issued an alert to consumers who are sensitive to eggs to avoid eating "Gotta Getta Bagel, Extra Large Challah" bagels due to the presence of undeclared eggs. The bagels were produced in November by Gotta Getta Bagel, 311 Central Avenue, Lawrence, NY. Gotta Getta Bagel is voluntarily recalling the product.The bagels are packaged six count, in a clear plastic bag, which is not coded. They were distributed in Manhattan.

 

Routine sampling by New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets food inspectors revealed the bagels contained eggs, which were not declared on the label. No illnesses or allergic reactions involving this product have been reported. Consumers who have purchased "Gotta Getta Bagel, Extra Large Challah" bagels should return them to the place of purchase.

 

Jasper Products Issues Allergy Alert on Undeclared Dairy Protein in Store Brand Soymilk

 

Jasper Products of Joplin, MO is recalling 5,069 cases of 32 fluid ounce cartons of soymilk packaged under the brand names of Stop & Shop, Western Family, Safeway Select, and Full Circle because it may contain undeclared dairy proteins. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to dairy proteins run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.

 

The soymilk was distributed directly to warehouses in Washington, Oregon, Utah, Missouri, New York and Minnesota for further distribution to retail grocery stores nationwide in 32 fluid ounce cartons under the following brands and lot codes: Stop & Shop Original Soymilk lot code 2280P1F1A, Stop & Shop Vanilla Soymilk lot code 2280P1F1A, Western Family Vanilla Soymilk lot code 2280P1F1A, Safeway Select Vanilla Soymilk lot codes 2280P1F1A and 2280P1F2A, Full Circle Original Soymilk lot code 2280P1F1A, Full Circle Vanilla Soymilk lot code 2280P1F2A.

There has been one incident of an allergic reaction reported to date. After learning of the incident and our resulting follow up investigation, it was determined the products may contain undeclared dairy proteins. The problem was caused by a temporary breakdown in the company's production process.

BCN Trading Inc. Recalls Mei Yuan Dried Mangoes Due to Undeclared Sulfites

 

BCN Trading Inc., located at 50 Franklin Ave., Brooklyn, NY 11205, is recalling 3.52 oz. plastic bags of Mei Yuan Dried Mangoes because the product contains high levels of undeclared sulfites. People who have severe sensitivity to sulfites run the risk of serious or life threatening allergic reactions if they consume this product. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this product.

 

The Mei Yuan Dried Mangoes, a product of Mei Yuan Preserved Foods Co., Ltd., Taiwan, was distributed in uncoded, 3.52 oz. plastic bags in the following states: New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Virginia and Florida.

 

The recall was initiated after it was discovered through routine sampling by NYS Dept. of Agriculture & Markets food inspectors that the product containing sulfites was distributed in packaging that did not declare the presence of sulfites. The consumption of 10 milligrams of sulfites per serving has been reported to elicit severe reactions in some asthmatics. Anaphylactic shock could occur in certain sulfite sensitive individuals upon ingesting 10 milligrams or more of sulfites. Analysis of the Mei Yuan Dried Mangoes revealed that it contained 30.72 mg of sulfites per serving.

South Beach Beverage Company Issues a National Voluntary Recall of SoBe Green Tea and SoBe Energy

 

South Beach Beverage Company today announced the voluntary recall of as many as 5,678 cases of SoBe Green Tea and 1,458 cases of SoBe Energy in 20-ounce glass bottles due to the accidental presence of dextromethorphan, a substance commonly found in over-the-counter cold and cough medications.

 

This manufacturing error imparts a slight to intense bitter taste and may alter the color of the affected beverages. If consumed in large quantities, this may cause lightheadedness, nausea or other reversible symptoms. If consumed in combination with certain medications, especially anti-depressants, e.g., monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs), the affected beverages may cause health risks.

 

The potentially affected packages have been distributed primarily to convenience stores and other retail outlets in parts of 11 states: California, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Minnesota, Nevada, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas and Wisconsin.

 

The only packages that may be affected are 20-ounce glass bottles of SoBe Green Tea with the production code SEP2203 XXXXFG09162A3 and 20-ounce glass bottles of SoBe Energy with the production code SEP2203 XXXXFG09172B3. Sara Lee® Issues Allergy Alert for Select Fruits of the Forest Frozen Pies

 

Sara Lee Bakery Group is voluntarily recalling specifically coded 40-ounce frozen pies labeled Sara Lee® Signature Selections® Fruits of the Forest Pie because some cartons may contain a different variety of pie containing walnuts. Consumption of pies containing walnuts by people who have an allergy or sensitivity to walnuts may result in a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction. This product only poses a potential hazard to walnut-sensitive individuals. The pies are safe for all other people to consume.

 

The recall applies to a single day of production for cartons displaying the production code 06032242XX (with XX representing any number between 00 and 24). This code may be found embossed on the flap of the package near the tear-strip used to open the carton. The incorrectly packaged cartons also contain a pouch of caramel used as a topping for the walnut-containing pie. The pie was distributed to retail grocery stores nationwide.

 

The company has received a few complaints from some consumers who have bought cartons of the Fruits of the Forest Pie containing another pie variety. There have been no illness or allergic reactions reported. The affected Fruits of the Forest Pie cartons are being removed from store shelves and may still be in consumer possession. Consumers may return the pies to grocery retailers for a full refund.
