Discovered: On February 28, 2002, the firm contacted FSIS to report that it was recalling the above-mentioned product based on their discovery that a small piece of metal from a processing machine had broken off and could not be accounted for.

The packages also bear the establishment code "P-2122" located inside the USDA mark of inspection.

Problem: The ingredient "sodium nitrite" is incorrectly declared as "sodium" in the ingredient statement on the product label.

Discovered: On March 5, 2002, the firm contacted the FSIS to report that they had discovered, through their label review process and subsequent investigation, that errors had occurred at their suppliers printing plant.

Health Hazard Alert: Presence of Glass Particles in Taster's Choice 340g Instant Coffee


 The Canadian Food Inspection Agency and Nestlé Canada are warning the public not to consume Taster’s Choice 340 g Instant Coffee because some jars may contain pieces of glass. The following products are affected by this alert.

 

Taster’s Choice, Original Blend, 340g, Best Before dates from 2003 JL (July 2003) up to and including 2004 JA (January 2004), UPC 055000 021241

Taster’s Choice, Naturally Decaffeinated, 340g, Best Before dates from 2003 JL (July 2003) up to and including 2004 JA (January 2004), UPC 055000 021586.

 

Consumers can check the best before date on the side of the metal cap. No other products and sizes are affected by this alert. The manufacturer, Nestlé Canada, Toronto, Ontario reported to the CFIA that it was voluntarily recalling these nationally distributed products. There has been one reported injury associated with the consumption of these products. Nestlé Canada asks that consumers call 1-800-387-4636 to request a prepaid envelope to send the cap for a full refund.

Lisy Corporation Announces Recall of "Lisy Dulcecitos" Assorted Candies Due to Serious Choking Hazard

 

Lisy Corporation of Miami is announcing their recall of Lisy brand Dulcecitos assorted Candies 1.50 oz per bag, because these product "May Contain 1 (one) or 2 (two) ABC Candy Mini-fruit Bites cups, that present a choking hazard. These candies are distributed in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Michigan, Illinois, Wisconsin, Tennessee, Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, West Virginia, Virginia, Alabama, Mississippi, Arkansas, Missouri, Louisiana, Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Colorado, New Mexico, Kentucky and Arizona under the labeled brand name "LISY" and are packaged in clear acrylic plastic bags, containing assorted Candies, 1.50 oz. and may have 1 or 2 cups of ABC Mini-Fruit Bites per bag. Each cup which is the size of a single coffee creamer, contains a gelatin product with a small chunk of fruit. These cups contain "konjac" also known as "conjac, konnyaku, yam flour, or glucomannan" which does not dissolve as easily as common gelatin does. The Consumer Product Safety Commission and the Food and Drug Administration consider this type of candy to pose a serious choking risk particularly to infants, children and the elderly. Local authorities have reported six children deaths from choking in the United States associated with this type of Jelly candy. There have also been reports of deaths in other countries.

 

The Food and Drug Administration contacted Lisy Corporation when they learned that they repacked and distributed these products. Lisy Corporation is cooperating with the FDA and is voluntarily recalling from distributors and retailers to consumers. Mom's Kandy Kitchen Issues Allergy Alert on Undeclared Peanuts, Macadamia Nuts, Milk, Yellow #5 and Yellow #6 in Pre-Packaged Chocolate Covered Candies


Mom's Kandy Kitchen, Inc. d/b/a Florence's Exquisite Candies is recalling pre-boxed milk and dark chocolate Assorted, Nut & Caramel, and Cherry Cordials and solid chocolate novelties because they may contain undeclared peanuts, macadamia nuts, milk, yellow #5 and yellow #6. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to peanuts, macadamia nuts, milk, yellow #5 and yellow #6 run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products. The recalled pre-boxed chocolates were distributed through retail stores and direct delivery in Southeastern Idaho, and mail order nationwide.

 

The Assorted, Nut & Caramel, and Cherry Cordials come in 2.6 ounce, l/2 lb., 1 lb., 2 lb., 3 lb., and 5 lb. boxes with the Florence's Exquisite Candies logo and/or label. The code is stamped on the bottom of the box. Products coded 02-63 and higher are properly labeled. The novelty chocolate items are in varying size boxes and do not contain a code. The recall was initiated in follow up to an FDA inspection that determined the products containing peanuts, macadamia nuts, milk, yellow #5 and yellow #6 were distributed in packaging that did not reveal the presence of these items.

 

Consumers who have purchased any of these chocolates are urged to return the item to Mom's Kandy Kitchen, 25 South Center Street, Rexburg, Idaho, or to Florence's Exquisite Candies at 1165 East 17th Street, Idaho Falls, Idaho, for a replacement of the item or items returned. Advance Food Int'l, Inc. Issues Allergy Alert on Undeclared Cashews and Almonds in "Chin Chin Snack Mix"


Advance Food Int'l, Inc. of Maspeth, New York is recalling its 14oz packages of "Chin Chin Snack Mix" because they contain undeclared cashews and almonds. People who have allergies to cashews and almonds run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.

 

The recalled "Chin Chin Snack Mix" was distributed to retail food stores in New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, North Carolina and Virginia. The product comes in a 14oz clear plastic package stating "Imperial Savoury Snacks" with blue, yellow and red logo colors. There is no apparent code on the packaging.

 

The recall was initiated as a result of routine field sampling by Food Inspectors from the NYS Department of Agriculture and Markets which discovered that the cashews/almonds-containing product was distributed in packaging that did not reveal the presence of these ingredients. Consumers who have purchased 14oz packages of "Chin Chin Snack Mix" are urged to return them to the place of purchase for full refund. Great Brands of Europe, Inc. Issues Allergy Alert on Le PIM's Soft Biscuits with Fruit Filling


 Great Brands of Europe, Inc. is voluntarily recalling all three flavors (Orange, Pear and Raspberry) of its Le PIM’s soft biscuits with fruit filling sold in the United States, because the products may contain undeclared traces of milk protein. Only people who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk protein run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products. These products were distributed nationwide through retail stores.

 

The products come in cardboard packaging of 150 g (5.29 oz), in three flavors: Orange, Pear and Raspberry (UPC codes 6-94990-00850-6, 6-94990-00855-1, and 6-94990-08370-1). No other UPC codes are affected by this action.

One allergic reaction to milk protein has been reported. This voluntary action was initiated after it was discovered that product containing traces of milk protein was distributed in packaging that did not reveal the presence of milk. Great Brands of Europe, Inc. was made aware of the situation after receiving one consumer complaint.

 

Consumers who have known food allergies to milk protein should not eat this product and are urged to return it to the store where it was purchased for a full refund. Klein's Naturals Ltd, located at 4702 2nd Ave., Brooklyn, NY 11232, is recalling 8 oz. packages of Klein's Naturals Fruity Deluxe dried fruit mix, because the product contains undeclared sulfites. People who have severe sensitivity to sulfites run the risk of serious or life threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem. The Klein's Naturals Fruity Deluxe is distributed in a tampered proof sealed 8 oz clear plastic container. Product was distributed in the New York and New Jersey.

 

The recall was initiated after it was discovered through routine sampling by NYS Dept. of Agriculture & Markets Food Inspectors that the product containing sulfites, was distributed in packaging that did not declare the presence of sulfites. The consumption of 10 milligrams of sulfites per serving has been reported to elicit severe reactions in some asthmatics. Anaphylactic shock could occur in certain sulfite sensitive individuals upon ingesting 10 milligrams or more of sulfites. Analysis of the Fruity Deluxe revealed that it contained 54.5 milligrams per serving.

Patterson Frozen Foods of Patterson, California is recalling 3360 bags of frozen “Best Yet Stir-Fry Vegetables with Noodles”, because the noodles contain undeclared egg. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to eggs run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products. The recalled frozen “Best Yet Stir-Fry Vegetables with Noodles” were distributed in areas of California, Utah, Nevada and Idaho where it is sold in retail stores.

 

The frozen “Best Yet Stir-Fry Vegetables with Noodles” are in a multi-color 16 ounce plastic bag. The bag is about 11-1/2” long x 6-1/2” wide. The code P24A2A or P24A2B will be stamped on the back of bag. The “Best Yet” brand seal is on the front along with a picture.

The label was not flagged as a label requiring a noodle without egg during the screening done prior to the first production run. A review of labels revealed the problem prior to subsequent production runs.

Recent tests show that the above items have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune system. Although healthy individuals my suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant woman. The recalled above products were distributed to kosher only retail stores located in Detroit, Michigan; Chicago, Illinois; Miami, Florida; Columbus, Ohio; New York, and New Jersey.

 

The potential of contamination was noted after routine testing by the F.D.A. revealed the presence of Listeria monocytogenes in several of the above items. The importation of this product has been suspended while F.D.A. and the company continue to investigate the source of the problem. Born Free Foods, Inc. of Hauppauge, NY is recalling its 12 ounce packages of Freida's Kitchen Chocolate Chip Cookies because they may contain undeclared peanuts. People who have allergies to peanuts run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.

 

The recalled Freida's Kitchen Chocolate Chip Cookies were distributed nationwide in retail stores and through mail orders. The product comes in a 12 ounce, clear plastic package marked with lot #52602 on the side. The recall was initiated after it was discovered by New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets inspectors through routine sampling that the peanut-containing product was distributed in packaging that did not reveal the presence of peanuts. Subsequent investigation indicates the problem was caused by temporary breakdown in the company's production and packaging business. Production of the product has been suspended until the company is certain that the problem has been corrected.

 Quaker Oats is voluntarily recalling Apple Cinnamon Quakes crispy mini rice snacks. The recall is focused on approximately 50 cases to 100 cases of the rice snacks, which may contain a dairy-based seasoning. While no illnesses have been reported, people who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk run the risk of an allergic reaction if they consume this product.

 

The product is packaged in 3.52-ounce bags with the "Best Before" date of AUG1202 CZ1XX (note: the XX can denote 01 to and including 07).
