Barbara Lotts Cakes Issues Alert on Undeclared Allergen in Product

 

Barbara Lotts Cakes of Sylvester, Georgia is recalling the following types of pound cakes: Lemon, Butter, Sour Cream, Cream Cheese, Pineapple, Banana, Sock it to Me, Kentucky, because it may contain undeclared food allergens. People who have an allergy or sensitivity to nuts, eggs, FD&C Yellow #5 run the risk of serious or life threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.

 

Products were distributed in South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida. They were delivered by delivery trucks to Bi Lo Food Chain, Premier Foods, Piggly Wiggly, Food Lion.

 

Products are packed in a plastic base and covered with a rigid plastic dome with a Barbara Lotts Cakes label on them. They will have a number in the top left hand corner which will be 40, 41, 42.

 

The recall was initiated after it was discovered that the products containing the allergens did not declare them. A subsequent investigation indicated the problem was caused by a temporary breakdown in the company's production and packaging processes.

Quaker Oats Issues Voluntary Recall on Quaker Oatmeal Brown Sugar Bliss Cold Cereal

 

Quaker Oats is recalling one of its cold cereals, Quaker Oatmeal Brown Sugar Bliss, packaged in 16-ounce boxes with the Best if Used By dates of SEP 08 03RS, SEP 09 03RS and SEP 10 03RS.

 

The recall may affect approximately 23,000 cases of the cold cereal nationwide, which may contain almonds in the product. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to almonds may run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products. No other Quaker cereal or food product is affected.

B & B International Connections, Inc. Recalls Imported Russian Milk Due to the Presence of Sulfonamide

 

B & B International Connections, Inc., 2829 West 21st Street, Brooklyn, NY 11224 is recalling 500ml glass bottles of "Mozhayiskoe" (Product of Russia) Sterilized Milk and 1 liter packages of 3.2% "Milaya Mila" (Product of Russia) Sterilized Milk because they contain sulfonamide, a drug prohibited in food producing animals and lactating dairy cattle. In addition, people who have sensitivities to sulfa drugs may run the risk of allergic reactions if they consume these products.

 

The milk was distributed to retail stores in the New York metropolitan area.

 

"Mozhayiskoe" sterilized milk is packaged in 500ml glass bottles with the following codes: October 23, 2002 and November 12, 2002. "Milaya Mila" sterilized milk is packaged in a 1-liter tetra pack (box) with the code December 12, 2002. Both product packages are labeled entirely in Russian.

 

The recall was initiated after sampling by New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets Food Inspectors revealed the imported products contained sulfonamide, a drug prohibited for use in lactating dairy cattle and food producing animals.

 

BCN Trading Inc. Issues Allergy Alert on Undeclared Sulfites in Sweet Winter Melon Candy

 

BCN Trading Inc., located at 50 Franklin Ave., Brooklyn, NY 11205, is recalling 8 oz. plastic tubs of Asian Boy Brand Sweet Winter Melon candy because the product contains undeclared sulfites. People who have severe sensitivity to sulfites run the risk of serious or life threatening allergic reactions if they consume this product.

 

The Asian Boy Brand Sweet Winter Melon candy, a product of Vietnam, was distributed to retail stores in an uncoded, 8oz. plastic tub in New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Virginia and Florida.

 

The recall was initiated after it was discovered through routine sampling by NYS Dept. of Agriculture & Markets food inspectors that the product containing sulfites was distributed in packaging that did not declare the presence of sulfites. The consumption of 10 milligrams of sulfites per serving has been reported to elicit severe reactions is some asthmatics. Anaphylactic shock could occur in certain sulfite sensitive individuals upon ingesting 10 milligrams or more of sulfites. Analysis of the Asian Boy Brand Sweet Winter Melon revealed that it contained greater than 10mg of sulfites per serving.

NY 11211, is recalling 250gm packages of Kushishang Brand Dried Potato and Hong Fu Brand Dried Potato Slice because these products contain undeclared sulfites. People who have severe sensitivity to sulfites run the risk of serious or life threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with these products.

 

The Kushishang Brand Dried Potato, product of China, is distributed in uncoded, heat sealed 250gm plastic bags. UPC #6920149000348. The Hong Fu Brand Dried Potato Slice, product of China, is also distributed in heat sealed plastic bags with coding #2002.12.10.2. Products were distributed to retail stores in the New York metropolitan area.

People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to sulfites run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product.

The Carriage House Companies, Fredonia, N.Y., is recalling 5,500 cases of Food Club brand Tartar Sauce in eight-ounce jars due to the presence of undeclared eggs. People who have an allergy to eggs run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reactions if they consume this product.

Reiter Dairy Recalls Chocolate Milk Due to Excess Vitamins A and D

 

Reiter Dairy, Inc., Barberton, Ohio, is recalling 150 half gallons of its Topps Vitality Fat Free Chocolate Milk because it contains a significantly higher-than-labeled level of vitamin A. (Approximately 44,700 International Units (IU) per quart are present in each quart of the product instead of the intended level of 2,000-3,000 IU.)

 

The same product is also being recalled because it contains too much vitamin D as well (4,000 IUs instead of the intended 400-600 IUs).

 

The recall was initiated after it was discovered that the product contained more than the labeled amount of vitamins due to an error by the manufacturer. The fat free chocolate milk, packed in 1/2 gallon containers coded "MAR 27," was distributed to retail stores in Ohio, Pennsylvania, and New York.

Galil Sun Dried Tomatoes in Oil, a product of Turkey, is packaged in 14.4 ounce glass jars, with code "L21121/Use by 7/30/2004" and has a UPC Number "0 79471 12720 2". Much of the same product coded "L33713/Use by 12/3/2003" was previously recalled March 5, 2003. Products were distributed to food wholesalers and retailers nationwide.

Ben & Jerry's is voluntarily recalling certain Karamel Sutra Ice Cream pints because they may contain undeclared peanuts, a known allergen, which is not declared on the label. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to peanuts run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product.

 

The Ben & Jerry's Karamel Sutra Ice Cream pints were distributed to retail stores nationally, and were not exported outside of the United States.

Sara Lee Bakery Group is voluntarily recalling specifically coded 11.5-ounce frozen Sara Lee® Butter Streusel Coffee Cake because a limited number of cartons may contain a different variety of cake, which is topped with pecans.

 

The recall is limited to Sara Lee® Butter Streusel Coffee Cake bearing the production code 04093029XX, with XX representing 15, 16, 17, or 18.

 

The production code can be found printed on the end flap of the package, opposite the tear-strip that is used to open the carton. This recall does not apply to any other Sara Lee® bakery products. No other Sara Lee® Butter Streusel Coffee Cakes are subject to this recall.

 

The Butter Streusel Coffee Cake affected by this voluntary recall was distributed to retail grocery stores across the country, except to stores in the following states: California, Oregon, and Washington. The Butter Streusel Coffee Cake with the production codes listed above is being removed from store shelves.

It is in a Cookies 'N Cream Ice Cream container that has a Tin Roof Sundae lid with a red rim, and is marked with "13JAN04X" on the bottom. Although peanuts are listed on the lid, they are not listed on the ingredient statement.
