b) Labeled as Famous Brand Mild Cheddar Cheese, random weight (9-15 ounces per wedge), distributed by Northern Wisconsin Produce Co., Manitowoc, WI.;

c) labeled only with the name "HOOP CHEDDAR CHEESE", an ingredient statement, and Nutrition Facts. There is no brand name or firm name and address on the package which is a retail package designed to have the label completed by the consignee after being received.  The

packages of cheese had random weights of about one pound. One wholesaler labeled retail packages of the cheese "KROGER RED WAX HOOP CHEESE" by a weight/price sticker added to the retail packages and bar code number 2-03969-00461-8.

Codes: Produced on February 12, 2001 and packaged on March 13 and 23, 2001, in approximately 13-ounce packages. The packages are marked with the establishment number "P-18274" inside the USDA mark of inspection and the following product names and codes:

"D'ARTAGNAN" brand "TRADITIONAL DRIED DUCK BREAST WITH OLIVE OIL" with a Julian code of "072 1" corresponding to the packaging date of 3/13/01; and

SONOMA" brand "DRIED DUCK BREAST with olive oil" with the Julian codes of "072 1" and "082 1" corresponding to the packaging dates of 3/13/01 and 3/23/01.

Problem: The product may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

Discovered: A microbiological monitoring sample was collected by FSIS on March 27, 2001, returned positive results for Listeria monocytogenes on April 04, 2001.

Codes: Produced March 22, 2001. The individual packages bear a "USE BY" date of "JUN 07 F34" and "EST. 780" appears in the USDA mark of inspection on the label.

Problem: Mislabeling, the product label incorrectly lists beef as the only meat ingredient. The franks are made with beef, pork, and turkey.

Discovered: The firm contacted FSIS on April 19, 2001, to report that product was being recalled following an investigation based on a customer report of beef franks of unusual appearance.

Codes: Produced March 1, 2001. The shipping cartons are identified with the "Lakeside Packers" emblem, and the box end panels bear the Canadian plant identification number, "38". The code ID of "Pack Date 01MAR2001" is also on the box end panels. The product code numbers listed below are the specific products affected by this recall. One of these product numbers, "L0311BH" or "L0231BH" is printed on the box end panels.

Problem: The product may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7.

Discovered: An investigation, by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) following up on illnesses in Canada, implicated this product. The firm initiated a recall of the product in Canada on April 22, 2001 and immediately notified FSIS that it was voluntarily recalling product in the United States also.
