J.V. TRADING GLENDALE LTD., 385 W. John St., Hicksville, NY 11801 is recalling jars of HOT SAUCE because they contain undeclared peanuts. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to peanuts run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product.

 

HOT SAUCE was distributed nation-wide through retail stores and wholesale distributors. HOT SAUCE is packaged in 280-gr. glass jars with gold and red labeling, all Chinese writing with red metal screw cap. There is no apparent code on the jars.

Macknight Smoked Foods Recalls Long Sliced Smoked Salmon Because of Possible Health Risk

MacKnight Smoked Foods of New Britain, PA is recalling 845 pounds of Long Sliced Smoked Salmon and 144 pounds of Long Sliced Smoked Trout because it has the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.

 

The recalled Long Sliced Smoked Salmon was distributed to MO, NJ, TX, NM, KS, GA, LA, and CO, through in retail stores. The recalled Smoked Trout was distributed in NJ through retail stores.

 

The Long Sliced Smoked Salmon product comes packaged in 4, 8, and 16 oz vacuum packages under the brand names “MacKnight Traditional, Rice Epicurean, and Cromarty’s”. The affected product bears the following batch codes on the back label just above the UPC symbol: 1248, 1249, 1258, 1259, 1266, 1269, 1270, and 1271. The recalled smoked trout comes in 4 oz vacuum packages under the brand name Cromarty’s. The batch codes for the Smoked Trout are 1263 and 1265. The recall is limited to Long Sliced Salmon and Trout only produced in New Britain, PA, as designated on the label on the back of the package. Long Sliced Smoked Salmon and Trout produced at other Macknight facilities are not affected.

Agriculture Commissioner Nathan L. Rudgers today warned consumers to avoid eating "Besitos De Coco (Macaroons) Capellan" due to an undeclared milk protein, an allergen to milk sensitive consumers.

The product is packaged in a 7.5 oz. (213g) plastic tray with UPC number 7 25793 10002 6. "Besitos De Coco (Macaroons) Capellan" was distributed to retail stores in New York and New Jersey. It was manufactured by Siboney Bakery, Inc., 5009 Grand Avenue, North Bergen, New Jersey 07047.

Baltic Star Food Production, 87-18 112th Street, Richmond Hill, New York 11418 is recalling 25 packages of uneviscerated processed fish. The product, OPRA BREAM (Dried Fish), a.k.a. "Leshch", was discovered by NYS Dept. of Agriculture & Markets Food Inspectors during a routine inspection at a retail market in Richmond Hill, New York. Samples analyzed confirmed that the fish had not been eviscerated prior to processing.

 

This product may be contaminated with Clostridium botulinum spores, which can cause Botulism, a serious and potentially fatal food-borne illness.

 

OPRA BREAM (Dried Fish), a.k.a. "Leshch", is packaged in plastic bags, of various weights of about half a pound. The recalled product was sold in the Richmond Hill area of Queens.

 

Consumers who have OPRA BREAM (Dried Fish) are advised not to eat it.

Easy-Bake Issues Allergy Alert and Recall of Bake 'N Design Cookie Sets Due to Undeclared Peanuts and Milk Proteins

 

EASY-BAKE is voluntarily recalling approximately 155,000 of its EASY-BAKE BAKE ‘N DESIGN COOKIE SETS, product nos. 60813/60821 and 60814/60821, because the white cookie mix included in the sets contains milk proteins and may contain peanuts, both of which were not declared on the label. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk proteins or peanuts run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.

 

The EASY-BAKE BAKE ‘N DESIGN COOKIE SET was sold in a purple and pink box with the EASY-BAKE logo on the outside and included a white cookie mix, icing mix, two food decorating pens and four cookie cutters. The product no. 60813/60821 or 60814/60821 is featured on the lower right corner of the packages front panel. The sets were sold in the U.S. at major toy stores and mass merchandise outlets nationwide beginning in November 2001 and cost approximately $6.99.

 

No other EASY-BAKE products or mixes are affected by this recall.

Indumar Seafood Corp. of Weston Florida is recalling its 16 oz. Plastic containers of Caribe Brand Fresh Crab Claw Meat, Product of Venezuela, because it has the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.

 

Caribe brand Fresh Crab Meat affected was distributed in Georgia, Texas, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and New York through retail outlets.

 

Caribe brand Fresh Crab Meat is packed in clear plastic 16-oz. containers with blue printing. The container has no code numbers or expiration dates. The "Claw" box is checked (X), indicating claw meat only.

Mother's Kitchen, Inc. Issues Allergy Alert on Undeclared Almonds in Certain Cheesecake Variety Packs

 

Mother's Kitchen, Inc., of Burlington, New Jersey is recalling all of its 50-oz. variety pack cheesecakes bearing UPC code 24916-98686 AND code date 02331 because those variety packs may contain undeclared almonds. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to almonds or nuts run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.

 

The recalled 50-oz. variety pack cheesecakes were distributed in the eastern half of the United States in retail stores. The product comes in a 50-oz. cardboard box. The boxes in question are marked with UPC code 24916-98686 appearing below the barcode and have the code date 02331 embossed on the same panel. The boxes have a brown banner in the upper left corner that reads "Restaurant Quality" and has a picture of three flavors of cheesecake (Classic, Fudge Swirl, and Strawberry Swirl). This box does not indicate that the product contains almonds. Some boxes may actually contain a fourth flavor of cheesecakes (Almond Amaretto cheesecake) that is topped with sliced almonds.

 

The recall was initiated after Mother's Kitchen learned that some of its 4-flavor variety pack cheesecakes were inadvertently shipped in boxes that did not reveal the presence of almonds. Subsequent investigation indicates that the problem was caused by a packaging malfunction. The problem is limited to the boxes described above.

Swatt Baking Company Issues Allergy Alert on Undeclared Milk in Salt Rising Bread

 

Swatt Baking Company of Olean, New York, is recalling 16-oz. loaves of Salt Rising Bread because it may contain undeclared milk protein. People who have allergies to milk protein may run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product.

 

The recalled 16-oz. loaves of Salt Rising Bread, coded sell by 12-18 (2002), were sold through retail stores and direct delivery in Western New York and Northwest Pennsylvania.

 

The recall was initiated after routine sampling by New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets Food Inspectors revealed the presence of undeclared milk protein in Salt Rising Bread in packages which did not declare a milk ingredient on the label. Subsequent investigation revealed a printing error on the package.

 

Consumers who have purchased Salt Rising Bread should return it to the place of purchase.

The recalled Blueberry Strudel Bites are packaged in a 12 count plastic package with code 008821 March 27.

The recall was initiated after it was discovered that the milk protein containing product was distributed in packaging that did not reveal the presence of milk protein. Production of the Blueberry Strudel Bites has been suspended until the company is certain that the labeling error has been corrected.

Each package bears a date code between "1-2" and "4-14." The establishment number "7302" appears inside the USDA mark of inspection.

Problem/Reason for Recall: The products contain whey protein (an allergen) that is not declared in the ingredients statement on the product label.

How/When Discovered: On April 14, 2003, while performing routine inspection activities the IIC noticed that the margarine being used in the sauce contained whey protein.

How/When Discovered: On April 22, 2003, in response to a complaint from a customer, plant management and the Quality Control Department conducted an investigation which revealed that the ingredients statement on the label for "Sausage Shop, Papa Cantella’s, Fully Cooked, Beef Hot Links, Smoked Sausage, Made in California was incorrect. The ingredients statement on the label identifies the beef sausage as being made with chicken, turkey, and other ingredients.
