Interstate Bakeries Issues Voluntary Recall of Oatmeal Cookies Due to Unlabeled Allergens

Interstate Bakeries Corporation is voluntarily recalling oatmeal cookies sold in its retail stores throughout the United States. Some HOSTESS® oatmeal cookie packages may contain chocolate chip cookies that contain milk and eggs that are not listed in the ingredient statement on the package label.

Lappert's Ice Cream, Inc. Recalls Ice Cream Because of Possible Health Risk

Lappert's Ice Cream, Inc. of Richmond, CA is recalling its 8 ounce, pint, 1.5 gallon and 3 gallon packages of ice cream, all flavors, because they have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. 

The recalled ice cream was distributed to California, Oregon, Washington, Nevada, Arizona, and Illinois. The ice cream may have been distributed to other States by Lappert's wholesale accounts. The 1.5 and 3 gallon containers were distributed to Ice Cream shops; pint and 8 ounce containers to retail outlets.

The 1.5 and 3 gallon containers are packed in round cardboard tubs; the 8 ounce and pint containers are packed in smaller round cardboard containers. All packaging is labeled Lappert's Ice Cream (plant number 06-6919). All lots of all flavors produced on or before August 4, 2005 are under recall. All product with a code of 216 or lower, or no code, on the bottom of the tub is under recall.

Future products produced after August 4th, 2005 with corresponding Julian date of 217 or higher coded on the bottom on the 1.5 and 3 gallon tubs, or date coded on the pint containers are not affected by this recall.

Recall of Esh Foods Cream Cheese Spreads Due to Undeclared Allergens

Esh Foods LLC, Gordonville, PA, is recalling its 5 lb bulk packages and smaller unlabeled containers of Crabmeat Cocktail Cream Cheese, Shrimp Cream Cheese and Plain Whipped Cream Cheese spreads because they may contain undeclared fish, eggs, wheat, milk, shrimp, soy and crab. The spreads were distributed in New Jersey, Maryland and Pennsylvania.

The 5 lb bulk packages of the cream cheese spreads have an Esh Foods label on top of the container with a Julian date of #202. Spreads from these large containers were transferred to smaller, unlabeled containers and sold at farmers markets.

Esh has stopped production of the cream cheese spreads until the company is certain that the labeling error has been corrected.

Consumers who have purchased packages of unlabeled cream cheeses from retail outlets in New Jersey, Maryland or Pennsylvania should contact the place of purchase to determine if their product is under recall.

Problem/Reason for Recall: The products may contain portions of the backbone from a cow just over the 30-month age limit, imported for slaughter from Canada. Both ante-mortem and post-mortem inspection were done on the cow in question. FSIS inspection program personnel determined the cow to be healthy and fit for human food.

On this animal all specified risk materials (SRM) were removed, with the exception of portions of the vertebral column. This is the reason for the recall of the selected products.

Latin Food Group Recalls Queso Seco Cheese

Latin Food Group of Miami, Florida is recalling 25 40-lb. cases of its Queso Seco Cheese because it has the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. 

Latin Food Group of Miami, FL sold this product on a cash and carry basis in 40 lb. blocks to two unidentified distributors who are likely to have further distributed the product. The product was sold between the middle of May and end of June 2005. This type of cheese is typically sold by weight in delis. It also may have been repackaged and sold under a private label. The contamination was detected in a 12 oz. package of cheese with an "El Puro" label which may have been provided to the distributor by Latin Food Group.

Allison's Gourmet Kitchens Recalls BBQ Beans Because of Possible Health Risk

Allison's Gourmet Kitchens of Moore, Oklahoma is recalling BBQ Beans, because it has a potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. 

The recalled product was distributed to retail and food service outlets in Illinois, Oklahoma and Texas. The product was packaged under the Allison's Deli Fresh label.

The product is packaged in 1 pound and 3 pound plastic deli cups as well as 5 pound plastic food service buckets with "Use By" dates of 9/25/05, 9/28/05 and 9/29/05 on the tops of the lids or sides of the container.

Fancy Whole Basil is Recalled Due to Possible Health Risk

Majestic International Spice Corporation of Montebello, CA, is voluntarily recalling its dried “Extra Fancy Basil” spice in 12.5 kilogram bags because product is contaminated with Salmonella Blockley.  

The only identification on the 12.5 kilogram paper bags is a white paper label stating “EXTRA FANCY BASIL 12.5 KGS.”  The exact dates of sale are unknown but we believe the product was sold beginning in late April 2005.

Carrington Labs Issued a Voluntary Recall of Medline Labeled Alcohol-Free Mouthwash 

Carrington Labs, Irving, TX has issued a voluntary recall of Medline labeled alcohol-free mouthwash. As a result of this recall, Medline Industries, Inc. Mundelein, IL is initiating a voluntary recall of Personal Hygiene Admission kits containing the same alcohol-free mouthwash. 

Product was distributed to hospitals, medical centers, and long term care facilities nationwide.

B. cepacia poses little medical risk to healthy people. However, people who have certain health problems such as weakened immune systems or chronic lung diseases, particularly cystic fibrosis (CF), may be more susceptible to infections with B. cepacia. B cepacia is a known cause of infections in hospitalized patients. B. cepacia bacteria are often resistant to common antibiotics. The effects of B. cepacia on people vary widely, ranging from no symptoms at all, to serious respiratory infections, especially in patients with CF.
