Teva Animal Health, Inc. expands a recall of Ketamine Hydrochloride Injection, USP CIII 100mg/mL in 10mL vials

Teva Animal Health, Inc. is expanding a recall of Ketamine Hydrochloride Injection, USP CIII 100mg/mL in 10mL vials for all lot numbers within their expiration dates to the Veterinary Level.  This product had previously been recalled to the distributor level and is being expanded as a result of an increased trend in serious adverse events associated with this product.

Veterinarians who have this product in their possession are instructed to cease using the product immediately and return it to their distributor.

PRODUCT Antibacterial Sulfamethazine Sustained Release Calf Bolus (72 hours). NADA 120-615. Net Contents: 50 boluses. Diamond Pet Foods is recalling Premium Edge Finicky Adult Cat and Premium Edge Hairball cat because they have the potential to produce Thiamine Deficiency. 

Thiamine is essential for cats. Symptoms of deficiency displayed by an affected cat can be gastrointestinal or neurological in nature.

PetSmart Recalls Dentley's Beef Hooves 

PetSmart (NASDAQ: PETM) is recalling two Dentley's Beef Hoof products for potential salmonella contamination. The products were manufactured by Pet Carousel, Inc. in Sanger, Calif. 

The recalled products include only the following types of Dentley's Beef Hooves purchased between Oct. 2, 2009 and Nov. 3, 2009:

Dentley's 10 Pack Beef Hooves UPC# 73725736055 

The affected products were shipped from the Pet Carousel plant to three PetSmart distribution centers in Ottawa, Ill.; Groveport, Ohio and Newnan, Ga.; and then shipped directly to certain PetSmart stores.   

Customers who purchased the recalled products should discontinue use immediately and return the product to any PetSmart store for a complete refund or exchange. Recall of Country Acres® Home Grown Turkey & Quail Starter 

Land O’Lakes Purina Feed LLC is recalling a single lot of Country Acres® Home Grown Turkey & Quail Starter 30% BMD 200 feed due to a lower than formulated protein level.   Low protein levels can adversely affect bird growth and development and, in extreme cases, increase the potential for bird mortality.  Only a single lot of this one product (distributed in 50-pound bags) is included in the recall.  No other products or lot numbers are affected.  The product and lot number being recalled is:

Lot numbers are printed on the sewing strip of each bag.  They are interpreted as follows:

9 = Year …  AUG = Month …  20 = Day of Month … ARC1 = Plant Code

The product being recalled was distributed to dealers in Louisiana, southern Arkansas, eastern Texas and southern Mississippi.  Dealers have been contacted and asked to hold this product (bearing the affected lot number) and to notify and retrieve the recalled product from customers.  Customers should discontinue feeding the product and return any unused portions to their dealer.

Customers who purchased this product will receive a full refund.

Nutro Products Announces Recall of Limited Range of Dry Cat Food Products

Nutro Products is recalling select varieties of NUTRO® NATURAL CHOICE® COMPLETE CARE® Dry Cat Foods and NUTRO® MAX® Cat Dry Foods with “Best If Used By Dates” between May 12, 2010 and August 22, 2010. The cat food is being recalled in the United States and ten additional countries.  This recall is due to incorrect levels of zinc and potassium in our finished product resulting from a production error by a US-based premix supplier.

Affected product was distributed to retail customers in all 50 states, as well as to customers in Canada, Mexico, Japan, Korea, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, New Zealand, and Israel.  

Consumers who have purchased affected product should immediately discontinue feeding the product to their cats, and switch to another product with a balanced nutritional profile.  

Consumers who have purchased product affected by this recall should return it to their retailer for a full refund or exchange for another NUTRO® dry cat food product.  Cat owners who have questions about the recall should call 1-800-833-5330 between the hours 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM CST, or visit www.nutroproducts.com.

Recall of Country Acres® Layer 16 Crumbles Poultry Feed

Land O’Lakes Purina Feed is recalling a single lot of a Country Acres® poultry feed product, due to the potential for higher than acceptable levels of salt. The presence of salt above acceptable levels can cause serious health issues, and at high levels, potential mortality in poultry.

The product was manufactured at a St. Joseph, Mo., feed plant and was distributed to dealers in a four-state region (northeastern Oklahoma, eastern / central Kansas, western Arkansas, and western Missouri). Dealers have been contacted and asked to hold these products and to notify and retrieve the product from customers. The affected product should be returned to the retail dealer and not used.

The product was distributed only in 50-pound bags and is typically used by small flock owners. The recalled product is identified as follows:

Lot numbers are printed on the sewing strip of each bag. Lot numbers are formatted as follows: 9MAR19STJ3, 9=Year / MAR= Month / 19=Day of Month / STJ3 = Plant Code.

Scotts Expands its Wild Bird Food Suet Recall to Include an Additional Seven (7) Products

The Scotts Company LLC ("Company") is expanding wild bird food suet recall. The expanded recall will include an additional seven (7) varieties of wild bird food suet products and additional manufacturing date codes of the five (5) varieties previously recalled. These additional products may contain peanut meal from the Peanut Corporation of America's ("PCA") facilities in either Texas or Virginia, and have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. Cereal Byproducts Company ("CBC"), the Company's broker, supplied the Company with the peanut meal from these locations.

Due to this expanded recall, the Company has requested that its retailers, distributors, sub-distributors, and distributors' retailers recall the affected products with the lot codes specifically set forth below, forward all recall communications down the distribution chain, remove these products from retail shelves or warehouses, and return them to the Company. In addition, the Company has again requested that those parties that sell the affected products respond to consumer questions by telling them to throw the product away, avoid touching unsealed product with bare hands, and wash their hands thoroughly after touching unsealed product.

Alaska Canine Cookies Recalls Certain Canine Cookies 

Alaska Canine Cookies of Anchorage, Alaska is recalling Peanut Butter, Power Bone and Carrot Cake flavors of Canine Cookies because they were manufactured using peanuts recalled by Peanut Corporation of America which have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. 

Alaska Canine Cookies were distributed in our 4 stores, (Anchorage, downtown Anchorage in the 5th Avenue Mall, Homer, and Wasilla) and on the website (www.alaskacaninecookies.com).

All three flavors (Peanut Butter, Power Bone, and Carrot Cake) come in a "Filled with Fun" bag (diagonally striped bag containing 3 large bones) and a "Woof Pack" (15 ounce bag labeled "Alaskan "Woof" Pack" with the Husk E. Dog on the front containing approximately 45 medium bones). Both the Filled with Fun and the Woof Pack, as well as any other Canine Cookie with a 1 ½ inch bone shaped sticker reading "Peanut Butter for Dogs, a natural treat for dogs" are included.

Additionally, the "Lollipup" (available only in the peanut butter flavor) comes in a 1 ounce bag with the Husk E. Dog on the front, and has the name "Lollipup" on the back and contains 1 large bone.

The "Polar Pooch Pouch" (offered only in the carrot cake flavor) is a 5 ounce bag with the Husk E Dog on the front, with "canine carrot cake" written across the front of the bag and contains 12 medium bones. There are no product codes or UPC codes for these products.

Western Trade Group, Inc. Recalls Roasted Peanuts 

Western Trade Group, Inc., of Port Angeles, Washington is recalling Roasted Feed Grade Peanuts, because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. 

The Roasted Feed Grade Peanuts were distributed to the following animal/livestock feed and wild bird feed packers in Iowa, Kentucky, Missouri, and North Dakota.  Product was distributed between January 1, 2008 and April 30, 2008. 

The peanuts were shipped to the firms in bulk 2,000 lb. totes labeled Aggieville USA, Mountain Grove, MO with the following codes: WT-60802 and WT-14484; and 50 lb. poly lined paper bags labeled Western Trade Group, Inc., PO Box 1060, Carlsborg, WA.  The fifty (50) lb. poly lined paper bags have no other codes.

Salix, a manufacturer of rawhide dog chew products, is recalling its Healthy-hide Deli-wrap 3-Pack 5” Peanut Butter-Filled Rawhide dog treats that contain peanut butter made by Peanut Corporation of America (PCA). 

The recalled peanut butter-filled rawhide treats are sold at PetSmart, Target and Wegmans Food Stores throughout the U.S. and Canada. The UPC of the voluntarily recalled product is 09109333354.

The product comes in a clear plastic bag with attached header card and the name Deli Wraps on the front. The package is a 3-count of 5” chew treats and the Universal Product Code is 0-91093-33354-0. All packages are marked with one of the following lot codes: A 08 208, A 08 212, A 08 232, A 08 234, A 08 263, A 08 264, A 08 268, A 08 275, A 08 276 or A 08 277. This code can be found on the backside of the header card.

Carolina Prime Pet Announces Recall of Dog Treats

Carolina Prime Pet, a manufacturer and distributor of dog treats, is recalling four of its dog treats that contain peanut butter made by Peanut Corporation of America (PCA).

The recalled treats are sold at various retail establishments in the U.S. and Canada. Although Carolina Prime Pet is not aware of any reported cases of illness related to these products, it has issued this voluntary recall as a precautionary measure.

The recalled products include only the following types of Carolina Prime Pet treats in single unit packages with lot date codes between 081508 and 010909:
