Specific Lot Number Distributed in southeastern Nebraska and western Iowa

The Land O'Lakes Purina Feed plant in Lincoln, Neb., has initiated a recall of LAND O LAKES® Sheep Balancer B136, packaged in 50-pound bags, due to the potential for a higher than acceptable level of copper. The recall is limited to Sheep Balancer B136 produced at the Lincoln plant on October 8, 2008.

The only product and lot number involved in the recall is:

The lot number is found on the sewing strip of each bag.

The product was distributed only to six dealers in southeastern Nebraska and western Iowa.

Retailers have been contacted and told to immediately quarantine the recalled product and notify customers who purchased the product. Customers should discontinue feeding the product immediately. Customers who purchased these products will receive replacement feed.

Mars Petcare US is recalling a limited number of bags of SPECIAL KITTY® Gourmet Blend dry cat food sold at Wal-Mart locations in Connecticut, Delaware, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, North Carolina, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Virginia, Vermont, and West Virginia. The pet food is being recalled following a positive test result indicating a potential contamination with Salmonella.

This product should not be sold or fed to pets. Pet owners should dispose of product in a safe manner (example, a securely covered trash receptacle) and return the empty bag to the store where purchased for a full refund.

The Hartz Mountain Corporation Recalls One Specific Lot of Nationwide Chicken-Basted Rawhide Chips Because of Possible Health Risk

The Hartz Mountain Corporation, Secaucus, NJ is recalling one specific lot of Hartz Chicken-Basted Rawhide Chips due to concerns that one or more bags within the lot are potentially contaminated with Salmonella. Hartz.

The product involved is 4,850 - 2 pound plastic bags of Hartz Chicken-Basted Rawhide Chips, lot code JC23282, UPC number 3270096463 which were distributed to a national retail customer. 

Dog owners who purchased this product should check the lot code on their bag, and, if the code is not visible, or if the bag has lot code JC23282 imprinted thereon, they should immediately discontinue use of the product and discard it in a proper manner.

Consumers can contact Hartz at 1-800-275-1414 with any questions they may have and to obtain reimbursement for purchased product.

Mars Petcare US Issues Recall of Everson, PA Plant Dry Pet Food Product due to Potential Salmonella Contamination

Mars Petcare US announced a recall of products manufactured at its Everson, Pennsylvania facility. The pet food is being  recalled because of potential contamination with Salmonella serotypeSchwarzengrund. This recall only affects the United States. 

Pets with Salmonella infections may be lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever, and vomiting. Some pets will have only decreased appetite, fever and abdominal pain.  Animals can be carriers with no visible symptoms and can potentially infect other animals or humans. If your pet has consumed the recalled product and has these symptoms, please contact your veterinarian.

The company stopped production at the Everson facility on July 29, 2008 when it was alerted of a possible link between dry pet food produced at the plant and two isolated cases of people infected with Salmonella Schwarzengrund.

Mars Petcare US is taking precautionary action to protect pets and their owners by announcing a recall of all products produced at the Everson facility beginning February 18, 2008 until July 29, 2008 when we stopped production.

Only those products which were produced at the Everson facility are impacted by the recall.

Many of the brands involved in the recall are national brands produced at multiple facilities. A chart for all products is below. For example, PEDIGREE® is manufactured in numerous facilities throughout the country, and Everson represents a very small portion of the manufacturing base – 2.7 percent of total PEDIGREE® production.

Mars Petcare US will work with retail customers to ensure that the recalled products are not on store shelves. Worldwise Inc. Recalls Retractable Dog Leashes

Products: SlyDog™ Retractable Dog Leashes

Hazard: The metal clasp connecting the leash to a dog’s collar can bend or break while in use, causing the leash to recoil back unexpectedly. This poses a serious risk of injury to consumers.

Description: This recall involves the SlyDog™ Retractable Dog Leash with a metal clasp. The leash has a handle composed of a blue plastic case with a black plastic grip. The leash is made of a black woven strap and measures approximately one-half inch wide. The end of the leash has a metal clasp which connects to the dog’s collar. The SlyDog™ retractable leashes with a plastic clasp are not included in this recall.

Sold by: Dollar General Stores nationwide from September 2007 through August 2008 for about $5.

Remedy: Consumers should stop using these leashes immediately and return them to Worldwise Inc. for a full refund, including shipping costs.

The Land O’Lakes Purina Feed plant in Fremont, Neb., is recalling four lamb feed products, packaged in 50-pound bags, due to the potential for higher than acceptable levels of copper.

The products and lot numbers involved in the recall were produced at the Fremont, Neb., feed plant only, and are described as:

Lot numbers range from Jan. 1, 2008, to May 30, 2008, and are listed on the bag as 8JAN01FRE1 to 8MAY30FRE1 inclusive.

On bagged products, the lot numbers are printed on both the tag and sewing strip of each bag. Lot numbers are formatted as follows: Example 8MAY30FRE1 – 8=Year / MAY= Month / 30=Day of Month / FRE1=Plant Code.

The first two products included in this recall (Honor Lamb Show Grower DX Pellet and Honor Lamb Show Grower Starter DX Pellet) were previously recalled and were distributed only in the following areas: Nebraska, north central Kansas, northwest Colorado, southern Minnesota, and western and south central Iowa.

The latter two products (Honor Show Lamb Grower B30 Pellet and Lamb Grower-Finisher B30) were distributed only in eastern Nebraska, northeast Kansas and western Iowa.

Lake Country® Lamb Feed 

The Land O'Lakes Purina Feed plant in Fremont, Neb., has initiated a  recall of two lamb feed products due to higher than acceptable levels of copper.

The products and lot numbers involved in the recall were produced at the Fremont, Neb., feed plant only, and are described as:

Lot numbers range from Jan. 1, 2008, to May 30, 2008, and are listed on the bag as 8JAN01FRE1 to 8MAY30FRE1 inclusive.

Lot numbers are printed on both the tag and sewing strip of each bag. Lot numbers are formatted as follows: Example 8MAY30FRE1 – 8=Year / MAY= Month / 30=Day of Month / FRE1=Plant Code.

The products included in this recall were distributed only in the following areas: Nebraska, north central Kansas, northwest Colorado, southern Minnesota, and western and south central Iowa.

The recall was initiated after receiving a customer complaint regarding the products. In addition, Land O'Lakes Purina Feed stopped producing the lamb feeds at the Fremont, Neb. plant and immediately began product testing.

Retailers have been contacted to quarantine these products and notify customers who purchased the product. The affected product should not continue to be stored or used. Customers who purchased these products will receive replacement product.

The Hartz Mountain Corporation Recalls Vitamin Care for Cats 

The Hartz Mountain Corporation is recalling a second specific lot of Hartz Vitamin Care for Cats due to concerns that bottles within the lot may have been potentially contaminated with Salmonella. Hartz recalled a specific lot code of Hartz Vitamin Care for Cats last November due to similar concerns. Both lot codes were manufactured for Hartz by UFAC (USA) Inc. in 2007, and were removed from distribution last November. However, bottles from the second lot had been shipped to customers prior to their having been removed from distribution.

The product involved is 739 bottles of Hartz Vitamin Care for Cats, lot code SZ 22771, UPC number 32700-97701. While normal testing conducted by Hartz and UFAC has not revealed the presence of Salmonella in any Hartz products, recent sampling conducted by the FDA did detect the presence of Salmonella.

Cat owners should check the lot code on their bottles, and, if the code is not visible, or if the bottle has lot code SZ 22771 or lot code SZ-16371 imprinted thereon, they should immediately discontinue use of the product and discard it in a proper manner.

Consumers can contact Hartz at 1-800-275-1414 with any questions they may have and to obtain reimbursement for purchased product.
